So my first day in YWAM has started pretty well although it was incredibly hot and stuffy throughout the whole day. I do miss winter :(.
The day started with me driving around the town like a madman. I needed to get all my errands done... and FAST! I left home at about 11am and returned at 4pm to pack up my clothes and necessities for the trip. I had told the base leader that I would be there at around "late evening", so I had to make sure I get there on time.
At 5:50pm, after triple-checking my checklist, I decided to leave the house with no regrets. I told myself "Andrew, you've got all your necessities. If you leave anything behind, it's going to stay there." So i jumped on the bus to the train station, took a train down to Claisebrooke and walked across to where YWAM was. I realised later on during the night that I had forgotten my underwear. *facepalm*
It was pretty awkward when I arrived actually. As i dragged my suitcase down the road to the base, I saw a woman who had just came out of the base walking towards me. She asked whether I was going to the base and when I told her that I was, her eyes lit up and she walked me to the cafeteria and sat me down at one of the tables. Her english wasn't that good as she was from Mongolia, but she was very hospitable. She brought me some food and looked for one of the YWAM staff to help me out with my registration.(Amazing. She was one of the students and still acted so hospitably)
I was then introduced to Chris, one of the YWAM staff. He was a really nice guy and we hit it off really well. He brought me to my dorm to drop off my baggage and then we headed off to a small group meeting just outside the cafeteria. I wish I could tell you all the names of the people I met today, but there are just too many to remember. Anyway, we spent a couple of hours just sharing our life stories and testimonies just so that we could understand each other better and create a better bond of friendship. I was really encouraged to see how people from all over the world have their own unique story of finding God. If this is how it starts off then I'm really stoked to see what happens next!
That's the story so far. :) Met quite a few people today, but will tell you more about them when it's not so late. Pictures up soon!
