Week 2 - The Character and Nature of God
Week 2 just blew my mind away! Throughout the week we went through the Character and Nature of God series and it was definitely one of my favorites so far.Chris Adams, our speaker, spoke on Exodus 34:6 and dug deep into the Word
The revelation of God's love was so strong that it broke another wall down - my belief that God was always against me unless I was on His side.
//"The Lord the Lord, the gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in Love and faithfulness - Exodus 34:6//
//We often make the wrong choices because our understanding of God is wrong//
//There is no mention of God being angry at man in the first book of the Bible! His only emotion in the first book was "grieved"//
//Compassion means "Suffering with" - It is an understanding that is moved to action. God does not stand far off in our suffering//
//When Jesus saved the adulteress from the Pharisees, he had the right to cast the first stone because he was sinless. But yet he didn't//
//Psalm 78:38//
//We don't have any rights! Everything we have is given by God's grace//
//God was merciful and gracious to the Ninevites despite all their cruelty and did not destroy them - Instead, he gave them an opportunity to repent//
//"Jesus didn't just die for one Hitler. He died for billions of Hitlers"//
//Romans 8:31 and Matthew 1:22-23 - Our God is with us. He does not contend with us//
//God is faced with a dilemma everyday. He has to choose between justice and mercy. But he always chooses mercy until the day of judgement//
Week 2 has definitely been the most life changing one so far. Just the freedom that comes from knowing God's intentions for us is not death but for us to come to repentance is MIND BLOWING! Each time we sin God chooses mercy over justice because he has compassion on us. I wept silently when Chris Adams(our speaker for the week) told us the story of Jesus compassion on the Adulteress. How could I not love a God who chooses not to stone us when he would be justified by doing it. How great is His love!
We also had our first night of Evangelism this week. The YPDTS group were to meet in the city and split into groups of 2 or 3 to talk to strangers and to shower God's love and caring heart for them. They reminded us that the most important principle about Evangelism is that it's not just about winning souls for Christ, but taking them one step closer towards God. We might not see the fruit now, but we might have just planted a seed in their hearts.
For most of us this was our first time evangelizing to strangers. So there was a lot of doubt and fear of rejection working within us. But surprisingly when all of us came back, we each had an amazing story to tell! For my group a couple from France came up to us asking for directions and we took the opportunity to talk and get to know them better before we prayed for them. It gave us a huge confidence boost to have someone open up their hearts for us to pray. I just hope that during the next couple of months during our evangelism nights, I will witness someone coming to Christ. :)
That's all the time I have for now guys, I really wish I had my camera so you could see what exactly we are doing here. I'll be posting much more real soon! :)
